The villagers have formed a cooperative and the beans are grown and roasted on site. Although both arabica and robusta plants are found locally, the arabica coffee is the specialty here. There is a scientific and research plantation in the village operated by a local grower who is studying pests and diseases on local plants and how to eradicate these using natural methods. This visit will be in the morning. Shanga is a social enteprise which employs approximately 70 people with disabilities who create crafts, jewellery and glassware using recycled materials. These products are sold in Tanzania and around the world. The origin story of this workshop is heartwarming and they welcome visitors. Visit to Shanga after the coffee plantation.
