Armadillo Overland Tours
Safari Overview: Our safaris allow you to get up close and personal with the Fauna and Flora of the Famous Kruger Park. We are Kruger Park Safari Specialists and our intimate knowledge of the park and which areas of the park are most likely, dependant on the Season and Time of year, to be the Game Hotspots, maximises your chances of seeing the Big Five, even on short Safari's. Our Overland Safari Vehicle simply amazes all who travel in her and offers great facilities with spectacular comfortable game viewing. General Information: We try to depart from a central point in Johannesburg by 06H00 on the morning of the Safari. Generally this is from the Gautrain rapid rail station in Midrand, accessible from OR Tambo International Airport Bus Terminal. If you require inexpensive but upmarket accommodation on the night before or the night at the end of the Safari, we can arrange this for you and can collect and drop you off at this accommodation in Beaulieu. If you are a group of 6 or more you can book a Private Safari or if you are travelling single or as a couple you can join a Safari which requires a minimum of 4 travellers to be confirmed. Accomodation: Mid-Range Accommodation varies between Bungalows, Huts and Fixed Safari Tents in Rest Camps, Bush Veld Camps and Tented Camps. We always strive to find Mid-Range accommodation that has private ablutions but this is not always available depending on how far in advance the accommodation bookings are made. There may however be times when communal ablutions are the only alternative. Luxury Accommodation consists of Guest Cottages, Guest Houses or Chalets in Private Bush Lodges, Bush Veld Camps and Rest Camps. In the Bush Lodges and Guest Houses, we book the entire lodge or Guest House for our private use and in the Rest Camps and Bush Veld Camps we only use Guest Cottages that have private ablutions. Camping Accommodation is in Canvas Dome Tents that you can stand up in with Lighting for each tent, Comfortable Foam Mattresses with Sheets, Pillows, Comfortable Camp Chairs, Camp Tables, Crockery and Cutlery and all Cooking Equipment is provided. Catering: Day 1 includes Full Lunch (en-route) and Full Dinner and the last day includes a Full Brunch at a convenient venue outside the park. On all other days we have Breakfast (Coffee/Tea, Rusks and Muesli with Yogurt), Full Brunch and Full Dinner. Vehicle Facilities: The vehicle is spacious and seats 12 on very comfortable safari seats with seat belts, the seat layout is such that it there is a very social atmosphere on board. Each set of seats has a table between and the seats face each other rather than our guests all facing forward in rows of seats. Each set of seats has a huge panoramic opening window for game viewing and photography with a smaller opening window at the top for ventilation. There are storage boxes for valuables and personal gear you want to keep with you in the floor of the vehicle. There is a music system that you can connect to via Bluetooth from your smartphone…it is used as the truck intercom when we are in the park so you can clearly hear all the information and interesting facts we give you about the fauna and flora we see. There is a comprehensive nature library on board…everything from the grasses and trees to mammals, arthropods and insects to mention a few. A fridge is available to keep your drinks ice cold…for your convenience we offer an honesty bar at prices much lower than those of the park shops but you are welcome to supply your own drinks and use our fridges. A flush toilet ensures that a fantastic sighting will not be cut short because someone needs the toilet, especially useful when we have children on board. A lighting system insures that when you need to get drinks or access your personal gear on board the truck at night, you won’t be fumbling in the dark. There are large luggage boxes under the truck for your suitcases etc.

Do you have an aunt and uncle that will take you on a perfect Safari, cook for you every day and night and dote on your kids while you relax on vacation? No? Well call Chris and Nikki at Armadillo Overland Safari and Adventure tours- they'll do all this and more. My wife and three daughters (4, 6 and 8 yrs old) spent 5 nights and 6 days with Chris and Nikki and their "armadillo" truck and we wanted to stay longer. Another month or maybe a year would be about right. Communication with Chris was easy and his e-mail responses were quick while we were planning our safari before we left the US. He sent us a planned itinerary of a safari in Kruger National Park and then added a requested side trip to Elephant Whispers which he arranged and included in the price of the Safari to make it even easier for us. And when traffic snarled our original itinerary he made a few calls and re-arranged the visit to ensure we had plenty of time with the Elephants and plenty of time in the park. He also added the requested panaroma route during our return trip to Johannesburg and was flexible with our schedule as our flight got moved up a couple hours the week before we left. The 'armadillo' vehicle is a elevated box on the back of an Isuzu 4x4 that ensures you can go virtually anywhere in the park and see everything when you're there. The sitting height is even higher than the game viewing vehicles that we saw allowing us to see animals far into the bush. The elevated box has multiple windows perfect for wildlife viewing and picture taking and for keeping cool riding around in the park. The box also has tables set between chairs to allow kiddos to play some card games when the game drives got longer than their attention spans or on the way to and from the airport. It also has an honor drink bar (beer, cider, water and chocolate milk for us) that Chris and Nikki will stock with whatever you'd like prior to departure. Binoculars? Check. An extensive library on all things safari? check. A heater for chilly mornings? check. An electrical strip for charging devices, camera batteries, etc? and with adapters? check and check. I'm not sure what they could add to make it better but give it a couple months and I'm sure they'll come up with something. Chris cooked up something delicious for us every night - it was so good that even our 8 year old that here to forth we thought survived on photosynthesis asked for second helpings a couple nights. And the brunches were just as good. We camped in the park for four nights and just outside the park the last night. The tents and sleeping mats were comfortable and kept us dry during a couple unseasonable rain showers. Chris and Nikki provided pillows and extra blankets which reassured my cold-phobic wife. This was the best family vacation we've had so far. If I could give them 10 stars I would- and it still wouldn't be enough
