Visionary Wild

Overall rating:

Visionary Wild specializes in inspiring, effective, and generous photography instruction by leading professionals, low student-to-instructor ratios – all our programs range from 2:1 to 5:1, accompanied by excellent support and amenities. We pride ourselves on being exceptional hosts, and our programs are typically packaged inclusive of single-occupancy lodging (double-occupancy available at prorated fees) and fine dining or high-quality catering of all meals.

Join award-winning wildlife photographers Lou Coetzer and Justin Black for this superlative African safari experience for a small group of five, designed to exceed a passionate photographer's wildest dreams. South African pro Lou Coetzer is simply the best there is at teaching the anticipation of animal behavior, timing, and camera handling skills that empower photographers to capture successful "decisive moment" wildlife images.

We will visit Africa's very finest wildlife destinations at an ideal time of year: Masai Mara, Kenya during the Great Migration, and Chobe River, Botswana, with mammals and birds concentrated along the river by the dry season.

Visionary Wild provided a terrific photo safari. The educational value of this workshop was unparalleled, and I have participated in many workshops. Justin Black and Lou Coetzer were both terrific in facilitating the photography learning experience and in finding the best locations to maximize the experience. The fact that they made 600 mm lenses as well as professional level camera to participants made this a very unique experience. The specially-equipped safari vehicles as well as the boats on the Chobe River made our small group the envy of every other traveler. We were able to capture a 360 degree view with the Wimberly mounted cameras. The ratio was two professionals for a group of only five photographers, so everyone had plentiful opportunities for private counseling in how to compose the best image with just the right camera settings. The critiques were absolutely perfect - we learned from critiques of our own images as well as participating in the reviews of everyone else’s photographs. We learned post production techniques as well as file management and of course the tricks of optimizing photographs. The accommodations were first rate, as was the food. The travel arrangements, always complex in Africa, were exceptional. This was the experience of a lifetime. While the cost is more than you would find with other routine safari expeditions, it was well worth it because the experience provided was far superior to standard safaris. I will take another expedition with Justin soon, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Visionary Wild to anyone who desires to improve photography in a first class environment, detailed planning and education, and superb photo opportunities.
